Happy Saturday from the 38th Floor

One last morning in Boston before heading home

Happy Saturday, friends. How is our vacation over already? Two weeks feel like forever and the blink of an eye, but now it’s time to pack our bags and fly home to L.A. We miss our Boston terrier, Baxter, so much, and while we’ve been getting lots of lovely updates from the sweet young woman who’s been watching him, we can’t wait to enjoy some furry kisses in person.

Baxter is doing just fine without us in his morning sunshine spot.

A quick update on what we’ve been up to since last week’s newsletter:

The person on the right might actually like baseball now.

Last Saturday night, we took Nic to his first Yankees-Red Sox game at Fenway Park. Chris and I have experienced the joy and agony of many of these over the years, but this was our son’s introduction to this heated, historic rivalry. Nic couldn’t possibly care less about baseball, but he’s a 14-year-old boy, so he likes drama — and he got plenty of it. To borrow from Bill Hader’s Stefon on “Saturday Night Live,” this game had everything: Matt Damon and Casey Affleck throwing out the first pitch, a ton of early runs, rowdy Yankees fans getting kicked out, a towering Aaron Judge performance, a blown save from our old Palos Verdes neighbor Kenley Jansen, and a heartbreaking, 10-inning, 11-8 Red Sox loss. Good times never seemed so bad, but it was still a blast.

We’ll take one of each, please, at Modern Pastry Shop.

One thing we never do when we come to Boston is play tourist, because we’ve spent so much time here. But I was craving pizza on Thursday night, so we headed over to the North End. Dinner at Regina Pizzeria was bustling and delicious (and we got there just in time before a line formed down the block), followed by cannoli and coffee at Modern Pastry Shop. That place is dangerous. The North End is so charming and quaint, with its narrow streets and historic buildings, it reminded us all of a studio backlot version of a major city. We also traveled down to Connecticut to visit one of Chris’ best friends from college, and up to Maine for lobster dinner. All in all, a great trip.

Climb in, there’s plenty of room in the backseat with Deadpool.

But returning home means thinking about movies again. Summer’s ending and fall festival season is beginning. In between, we’re doing a LIVE “Deadpool & Wolverine” spoiler chat. There’s so much to talk about between all the cameos, inside jokes, pop culture references and twists and turns. Join me and Alonso at Noon Pacific time on Tuesday, Aug 6. We’ll get into everything we didn’t want to ruin in our spoiler-free review last week. Make sure to hit the Notify Me button so you don’t miss a thing. Hope you’ll join us!

And speaking of twists, we’ll also catch up with “Trap,” the new M. Night Shyamalan thriller, next week on our Breakfast All Day YouTube channel. We are here for the Josh Hartnettassaince.

We rob banks.

Over at our Breakfast All Day Patreon, we’re honoring the legendary Faye Dunaway by making her the subject of our August Off the Menu poll. You pick the movie, we review it. Dunaway is at the center of the documentary “Faye” on Max, which examines not just her prolific career but also her reputation for being difficult. The actress is surprisingly candid about the bipolar disorder and alcoholism she’s struggled with over the years. As of this writing, “Eyes of Laura Mars” is in the lead, but “Chinatown” is gaining. Join us and cast your vote.

Nicolas Cage is chilling in “Longlegs.”

Here’s a brilliant idea: NEON is offering free tickets to “Longlegs” to people born on the 14th day of any month. If you’ve already seen the film, you know what this means; if you haven’t, here’s your chance to find out. Tim Grierson and I raved about the horror movie, starring Maika Monroe and Nicolas Cage, when it came out last month. You can get your tickets here or through the Atom Tickets app. Happy birthday to you!

Athletic is almost as prevalent in New England as Sam Adams.

One of the nice surprises about the second half of our trip has been discovering how many places carry Athletic Brewing Company beers. Maybe they’ve made lots of inroads in the region because they’re based partly in Milford, Conn., but it’s been a pleasure to find my favorite non-alcoholic beers in such varied spots as a sports bar outside Fenway and an elegant seafood restaurant in Kittery, Maine. And it reinforces how much I love being an ambassador for this brand and singing the praises of their delicious brews. Take 20% off your order with my link and code CHRISTYL20. Shipping is free on orders of $50 or more. Hope you enjoy, and let me know what you try!

Off to enjoy our last few hours in Boston before heading to the airport. Thanks for coming along on this journey with me, and hope your summer adventures have been treating you well, too. If you’ve found value in this newsletter, I’d be honored if you’d share it with a friend. Have a great week, and I’ll see you back here next Saturday.
